Record Prices For Lamb

Record lamb prices are fixed in the opening meat schedule for 1969-70, announced yesterday by exporting companies in Christchurch.

A 301 b iamb with Iflb of wool will fetch $7.31 this year, an increase of $1.40, or 24 per cent on last year’s opening schedule.

The bare meat price of 291b-361b lamb is 21.8 c per lb, which includes a 4.5 c premium for early shipment. Last season’s adjusted opening price of 16.45 c included a 1.75 c premium for early shipment, which was discontinued after November 8.

The pelt and wool payment for a Iflb wool pull this season is 77c, compared with 99c last reason.

The schedule will apply from next Monday, and according to an industry spokesman, includes a premium for lambs handled in time to be loaded on the first vessel to leave for the United Kingdom. The Devon, which Is to load at Timaru on November 3, will take lambs killed in the South Island up to October 28. The meat schedule for the second vessel of the season will carry a reduced premium. Meat prices are:

Prime: 201 b to 281 b, 22.7 c; 291 b to 361 b, 21.8 c; 371 b to 421 b, 20c; 431 b and over, 18.9 c.

FA.Q.: 201 b to 281 b, 20.9 c; 291 b to 361 b, 20.5 c; 371 b and over, 18.7 c. Alpha: 13.7 c per lb.
