FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A west to south-westerly airstream prevails over New Zealand; a cold front moving north-eastwards in this airstream is approaching from the south-west. Forecast:

Canterbury.—Moderate to fresh west to south-west winds; cold, with showers; some snow about the ranges; considerable fair intervals.

Marlborough.—Moderate to fresh north to north-westerlies in the morning but winds tending south-westerly in the afternoon; some cloudy areas in the morning with a few isolated showers, otherwise fine and cool. Nelson. —Fresh to strong south-wester-lies ; showers about the western ranges, otherwise fine and cool. Buller and Westland.—Fresh to strong south-westerlies; cloudy and cold with further showers; some snow on the ranges. Outlook: scattered showers on the West Coast; mainly fine elsewhere.
