Buller Temperatures

Sir,—l am somewhat concerned over the reluctance of CHTV3 announcers to advertise the frequency with which Westport leads in temperature readings on the 7.30 p.m. weather forecast, particu-

larly as far as the South Island is concerned. Whenever Westport tops the poll, never a word of praise is extended to a district that comes within their own viewing area. Our local Televiewers’ Society fought for a long time to have Westport temperatures announced on television, as the only previously announced temperatures came from Hokitika, 90 miles south, and it is not surprising to note that our temperatures are, on an average, three degrees higher. Westport’s geographical position puts us almost in line with Blenheim. We are part of the Nelson province, and not the “Wet Coast” as some people are led to believe.—Yours, etc., CREDIT WHERE DUE. October 3, 1969. [Mr J. N. M. Norman, regional director of the N.Z.B.C. replies; “There is no reluctance on the part of our announcers to comment on the highest temperature of those shown on the weather map; nor is there discrimination against Westport. Quite recently attention was drawn to its high temperature.”]
