Art Prize
(N.Z, Press Association) . PALMERSTON NORTH, September 28. Ray Thorburn, a 32’-year-ol d painter and art lecturer, won the 1969 Manayatu Prize for contemporary painting last night. The judge, Mr P. McCleavey, chose Mr Thorburn’? geometric abstraction “Modular 10” from 127 entries. Mr Thorburn, a lecturer in art at the Palmerston North Teachers’ College, had / a painting selected last year for the Benson a JR.-JS tured at a Melbourne art school for three years before coming to Palmerston North in 1967.
