New Zealand farming communities will hear much about Western Australia from Miss Irene Palmer within the next three months. West Australian newspaper readers will see her articles on New Zealand some time later.

Miss Palmer, the 1969 exchangee to New Zealand from the West Australian Federation of Junior Farmers’ Clubs has to work for the award which she won from 120 contestants. She is expected to write features for four West Australian newspapers, after doing a “crash

course” on writing recently in Perth.

She will give talks to Country Girls’ Clubs and Young Farmers' Clubs in all the areas she visits, as well as to Country Women’s Institutes and branches of the Women’s Division of Federated Farm-’ ers which invite her to address them.

Public speaking is easy for her as she has had plenty of practice during the last four years in debating teams and speaking to young Australian farming groups. Miss Palmer has brought a set of 120 colour slides on West Australia to illustrate her talks. Bank Supervisor A cheque account supervisee at the Commonwealth Banking Corporation in Bun-

bury, 120 miles south of Perth, Miss Palmer belongs to the Dardanup Junior Farmers’ Club where she has held office as treasurer. She has also been treasurer of the central council, an executive delegate to the West Australian Federation, and secretary of several federation committees. Miss Palmer is a member of the Dardanup club's debating team, which is in the semi-finals of the West Australian contest to be held early next year. Her interests include the amateur theatre, basketball, tennis and badminton. She is the make-up artist for the Musical Comedy Group in Bunbury and often comperes Junior Farmers’ Club programmes on the local radio station.
