OBITUARY Dr Eleanor McLaghlan

AUCKLAND, Sept. 23.
The sixth woman to graduate from the Otago Medical School, Dr Eleanor Southey Baker McLaghlan, died in Auckland on Sunday, aged 90. Dr McLaghlan was bom at French Farm, Akaroa, in September, 1879 After her studies at Otago she studied in England and Ireland.
At 72 she retired from practicing medicine and at 85 wrote a book, “Stethoscope and Saddlebags,” about her career.
She worked for Sir Truby King at the Seacliff Hospital, helped pioneer the school medical service and after retiring from the Health Department joined the staff of Wellington Hospital as a house physician.
