FOURTH TEST

Springboks Win, 19-8 (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) BLOEMFONTEIN (South Africa). The Springboks made their first sweep of an international series in 20 years when they beat Australia, 19-8, in the fourth and last test match of the Wallabies’ tour. For the Wallabies, due to return home on Wednesday, it was the eleventh defeat in 26 matches, during which they scored 467 points against their opponents* 353. The game Australians fought all the way. The flyhalf, J. Ballesty, opened the scoring with a fifth-minute penalty. Though he later missed four kicks which could have brought his team victory, Ballesty converted a magnificent try by the centre, S. Knight, to emerge as the Australians’ highest scorer of the tour, with a tally of 89. Ballesty’s conversion, coming after two penalties from the Springbok fly-half, P. Visagie, and a try by the centre, E. Olivier, narrowed the South African lead to 9-8, but the Australian defence cracked when the wing, G. Muller, and Olivier raced through to score two more tries.

Both were converted by Visagie, whose points total of 43 in the four-match series broke the world record of 39, set by D. B. Clarke (New Zealand).
