Scrub Fire At Beach

About six acres of scrub were destroyed by fire at Waimairi Beach yesterday afternoon. Two units from the New Brighton station, one unit from the Woolston station and the Waimairi County Council fire tender answered a call received at 1.3 pjn. Firemen spent most of the afternoon fighting the flames which were fanned by a north-east wind which became stronger after the fire broke out. Water was obtained from the Waimairi golf course.

The fire attracted a big crowd.
