Facilities For Handicapped
i Specially designed toilet facilities for handicapped persons. believed to be the first of their kind in New Zealand, will be opened at Christchurch Airport this week. Mrs N. G. Pickering, convener of the architectural barriers committee of the Christj church Co-ordinating Council j for the Handicapped which requested the facilities, said [that they had been built in the old first-aid room at the airport. They include a toilet and hand basins specially designed for easy use by persons in wheelchairs and by other physically handicapped persons. There are also hand rails and grip rails in the room.
When the facility is opened it will be marked with a symbol indicating that it is for the use of handicapped per-; i sons.
