CLUB'S 79th SEASON
Good Start To Yachting A large number of boats attended the opening of the yachting season at the Christchurch Yacht Club on Saturday.
The Mayoral Cup race, which; s-as contested by 30 starters, i included Moths, catamarans, Junior Cherubs, Finns and O.K.s and was won by D. Hobson in bis O.K. Zenith, while the fastest time was gained by J. Wearnt Finn, Jolifinn. The wind dropped after the first of the two laps and only eight boats finished. The Commodore Cup for the. P Class race was won by D j Partington in Cadet, while M.i Stemmer in Metro was first on' handicap time. The club's seventy-ninth sea-i son was officially opened by; Mr W H. Beanland, the president of the Canterbury Yachting Association. Also in attendance were the Mayor of Christ church (Mr A. R. Guthrey) and the member of Parliament for Lyttelton (Mr N. E. Kirk). Results were: Mayoral Cup.—Zenith, O.K. (D. Hobson) 1; Omega, Gully Moth (R. Smith) 2; Quest, Junior Cherub (I. and N. Jackson) 3. Fattest time: Jolifinn, Finn (J, Yearns).} Commodore's Cup (P Class). —Metro (M. Stemmer) 1; Dart (M. Lyons) 2; Top Cat (E. Maynard) 3. Fastest time: Cadet iD. Partington).l
