TRADING IN METALS
Higher Quotas For Tin (N.Z P.A.-M«uter—Copgrtjht) LONDON, Sept. 19. Copper, tin, lead and zinc will be traded on the London Metal Exchange on the metric system after next January, the market announced today.
The trading unit will be a 1 metric ton. The minimum ] trading parcels of copper, lead and zinc will be 25 metric tons, and for tin five metric tons. Silver trading will continue to be quoted in pence per troy ounce, as at present I The International Tin Coun- ) cil,- announced an increase in tin export quotas for the next [quarter. ,l They said the quotas for ; the quarter October 1 to De- , cember 31 would be 41,500 long tons for the six producing countries. This compares with 39,500 tons in the present quarter. The buffer stock manager was again authorised to operate (buy or sell within’ the middle sector of the I.T.C. price range—£l4oo to £1515) for the three months from October 1. An I.T.C. spokesman said that the announcement of the export quota figure for the next quarter was only an interim communique.
