Release Of Petrel
The giant petrel found on the beach at Sumner on Tuesday was released frmn a launch-about half amila. out to sea from Scarborough «t 3.15 p.m.yesterday bjrjf r B. N. Norris, of Sumner, an honorary ranger ■of the North Canterbury AeclimatisatiOn Society who has cared for the bird: since it was found. Mr Norris said yesterday that the launch was taken only about half a mile out as the sea was very rOt'gh, After the bird was released it remained on the water. Mr Norrie said that he would watch the beach in the heitt few days to make sure that the bird did hot return.
