Kowai Bush School
Sir,—As a grateful ex-pupil I would like to say that Mr and Mrs Downes have well and truly covered the academic side of the Kowai Bush School. I know of several pupils who have gone direct from Kowai to Darfleld High School and St Bede’s and played in top Rugby, cricket, hockey and basketball teams, and also excelled in rowing and athletics to record-break-ing standard. We were definitely not deprived of sport while at Kowai and played competitively with the rest of Malvern. All the former teachers have attained high positions in the Education Board and of this we feel justly proud. I am pleased to hear that a recent unexpected increase in the roll has made the outlook brighter as it would be a great pity for all concerned to see this school close.—Yours, etc., WAYNE HORNBROOK.
