OBITUARY
Mr J. E. Farrell (N.Z. Press Association) OAMARU, September 1. The death occurred in Oamaru today of Mr James Esmond Farrell, former High Commissioner for New Zealand in India and Ceylon and Ambassador to Nepal. Mr Farrell was the senior partner in ‘the legal firm of Hjorring. Tait and Farrell. Mr Farrell attended Canterbury University and was nominated for a Rhodes scholarship. In World War H Mr Farrell joined the Royal New Zealand Air Force. He was a member of the Oamaru Trotting Club executive from 1931 to 1965 and was for 12 years president of the club. He was vice-presi-dent of the New Zealand Trotting Conference when he took up his diplomatic post in India. He also served for several years as a member of the Totalisator Agency Board. Mr Farrell was president of the National Party committee for the Oamaru electorate. He is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter.
