Prime Cattle . At 312 head, the prime cattle yarding was 70 fewer than last week. It included the best selection of heavy-weight steers seen at Addington since last spring. There was a very light entry of heifers, and only a moderate supply of cows. With the exception of seven or eight pens, the steer offering was of very good quality, and the market was again a very sound one, with v»lues showing little change. Some pens were a shade firmer. Cows were fractionally stronger In the early stages of the sale, but otherwise were much on a par with last week’s rates. Prime heavy steer beef sold to 622.50 per 1001 b, prime medium-weight from $22.30 to 923.50; prime heavy heifer beef to 921.50, prime medium-weight from 922 to 923, and cow beef from 917.50 to 918.50. Dairy Cattle The dairy cattle yarding was a large one. It consisted ot 23 heifers and 21 cows, and many of them were in very light condition. These were hard selling, with quite a number of the cows fetching little more than boner price. Some of the usefur heifers sold quite well, but values showed no improvement on last week’s rates. Best heifers sold from 980 to 992, medium from $64 to $74 and plainer heifers, Including Jerseys, down to 945. Many ot the cows were showing age, and there was no strength In the market. The best of the entry Kid from 978 to 990 with medium from 961 to 973 and plain down to 943.

Store Cattle Store cattle continued to sell steadily. A sizeable gallery followed the sale, and there was good Interest in the few. forward lots of steers. The best price of the day was $lOl for the beet- of two pens of two-year-old' steers from a Marlborough vendor. Two-year-old Aberdeen Angus steers sold to 996.50, and there were sales of fairly big Friesian steers at 978 to $98.50. Yearling steers sold particularly well with prices ranging from $95 to $74. Friesian steers of the same age sold to $5O. Salea of store cattle included:— E.' J. D. Good (Kekerengu), 19 two-year-old Hereford steers at $9O to $lOl. Fifteen bulls were offered, and top price was $l9l for a Friesian. A Hereford fetched $135 and a Shorthorn $lB5. There were several other sales at $l2O to, $144. Vealers An entry of 150 vealers met a good sate throughout. Good quality young cattle were fully firm to $2 stronger, but plainer sorts showed no change. With the exception of a small number of pens, quality was only average. The selection of bigger vealers was small and quality was also plain. The entry included 30 to 40 bobby calves, and these met an easier sate, values ranging from $8.75 to $l2. The best of the vealers sold from $B2 to $BB. medium from $74 to $BO. and lighter from $62 to $7O. Best calves sold from $52 to $5B, medium from $44 to $5O and small from 934 to $42.

Fat Pigs The entry In the tat pig section was slightly smaller than last week, and values were better. Very few good quality porkers were offered, and these met keen competition. The occasional pen of light porkers also Improved, with some interest from fatteners. Some of the heavy porkers and light baconers were too fat for the trade, and onHy the best maintained recent rates. Medium and heavy baconers were on a par with last week.

The chopper entry was heavier, and quality was very mixed. Here again, only the best pigs, met good competition from the trade. Values were:— Light porkers, $19.50 to 921.50. Medium porkers, 922.40 to 925.20.

Heavy porkers, 926.60 to 928.10. 932^(> ht baconeTS - 929.10 to

Medium and heavy, 933.50 to 939.50, with an odd sate to 942. Choppers, unfinished, 911.25 to 918.

Finished, 923.75 to $36.75, with two sales to $4l.

Store Pigs The entry in the store pig section was again a full one, and quality over-all was good. There was a fair attendance of buyers, and values at the start of the sale were fully firm on last week. However, over the last race, values eased as buyers filled their requirements. Good quality weanere sold well, but small weaners were not in such demand. Slips and small stores also sold well, and some pens of large stores met good competition, good quality pigs realising a premium over plainer sorts. There was a large offering in the ln-plg . sow section, but interest was limited. Values were on a par with last sate. The best sows sold from $59 to $6O, but there were quite a number under $3O. A Berkshire sow with litter of nine realised $72. Values were;—

fimail weaners, 99.20 to 910.50. Best weaners, 912.40 to 914.50. Slips, 914.90 to 915.90. Medium and large stores, $16.50 to $2O.
