FARMING OF OYSTERS
48 Leases Granted <N.Z. Preit Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 26. Forty-eight private leases for oyster farms were granted up to March 31 this year, according to the annual report of the Marine Department, tabled in Parliament today. They are at Whangaroa Harbour the Bay of Island, Mahurangi River, Haurakl Gulf, Coromandel, Maketu, Ohlwi, Kaipara and Hokianga. The report raid production from private farms last year was 1483 sacks, worth $38,571. Of these, export sales accounted for 437 sacks, worth $14,004. Sales on the local market were 1046 sacks worth $24,567.
