Flood Toll In India

Floods and storms in India have killed 822 people and 228,871 head of. cattle so far this year, the Minister for Irrigation and Power (Dr K. L. Rao) told Parliament today.
He said that flood damage was estimated at 150 million rupees ($17,848,000), and a further 1000 million rupees ($119,055,000) worth of damage had been caused by a cyclonic storm in Andhran and by rains in Kashmir. Dr Rao said that the flood season normally lasted until the end of September, so the assessment was not complete. He reported that 9,339,000 people and 1,670,000 hectares of land had been affected by the floods. Damage to crops amounted to 392,600,000 rupees ($46,763,000). Houses lost totalled 312,975.
