(N Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) BROOKLINE (Massachusetts). Mrs M. Court (Australia) and Miss V. Wade (Britain) defeated the American Wightman Cup players, Mrs M. Curtis and frjiss V. Zeigenfuss, 6-1, 6-3, to win the eighty-ninth annual United States national women’s tennis doubles championship.

Mrs Court had won the title I last year with Miss M. Bueno, j It was Miss Wade’s first! United States doubles win. S. Smith established his bid! to become America’s No. 1 singles player when he over-i whelmed his doubles partner! and Davis Cup team mate, R.i Lutz, 9-7, 6-3, 6-1, to win the: national singles championship.' Smith’s decisive victory re- 1 quired only Ihr 37 minutes. : In defeating Lutz, with! whom he won the national! doubles title last year and was! successful in Davis Cup competition, Smith was a most: proficient workman. He did l not lose a service. His return of service broke Lutz’s ser-! ving efficiency and at the net he let few shots past.

R. Crealy and A. Stone i (Australia) won the United ■ States doubles title by defeating W. Bowrey (Australia) I and C. Pasarell (United States), 9-11, 6-3, 7-5.
