Wilkinson, aged 18, and G. wlndeatt, aged IS, fought an exciting finish in the open 220 yards freestyle race at a carnival at the Freyberg Pool last ” Wilkinson drew away in the sprint to the line to win In 2mln 6.6 sec—three-tenths of a second slower than he clocked for the event tn Christchurch last week. His time was seVeh-tefiths of a second slower than Windeatt set in the same Christchurch carnival. The swim of Virginia Rickard, aged 10. was of equal merit. In the first event of the night, the under 12 220 yards freestyle, she swept away from the rest of the field to touch in 2min 23.8 sec. This was o.7sec faster than she recorded in Christchurch last week.
