PRODUCTION DOWN
Britain’s car production in the first half of 1969 at 936,792 units was 20,000 below the figure for the first half of last year. Weekly average production, for both home and export, was 2.1 per cent down for the half-year at 36,030 cars a week.
The fall in total production emphasises the major decline in the home market this year. Export production for the half-year was 6.8 per cent higher on weekly average, but this was more than offset by a 9.1 per cent drop in weekly average production for the home market.
However, in June there was an increase in weekly average home market pro-
duction of 9 per cent compared with June, 1968, and export production- on the same basis Was 8.7 per cent higher. On these figures total production for 1969 could be expected to be about 1,725,000 units or 5 per cent below the 1968 level. Commercial vehicle weekly average production figures for the first half of 1969 show an 18 per cent rise over the first half of 1968.
