TROTTING Break Through Is Addington Pick
Break Through looked desperately unlucky when he finished second, a nose behind Royal Armour, in the Christchurch Handicap at Addington Raceway last Saturday. He will be strongly fancied to make amends when he contests the Winter Handicap tomorrow.
The Winter Handicap: Jis the second leg of the ;TAA double on the -second day of the New Z Zealand Metropolitan ; Trotting Club's national -meeting.
* Break Through was late Zworking clear in his race lasi •week, and he put in a treZmendous final spurt for his -placing. With better luck in •ibe running he should gain Xan overdue win. - Stylish Major was trotting Zas though he would take a part in the finish -until he was put out of the 2 race in a mix-up near the -three furlongs. The race •should have improved him Zand he should be capable of -putting Break Through to the •test. r Johnny Gee was another •‘unlucky runner last week, 2 being all but knocked down -inside the final furlong when •he was at the top of a sprint
which, in normal circumstances, would have landed him closer than fourth. His stablemate, Tony Bear, saved place backers of the bracket when he finished third. He, too, will be a sound chance once more.
Last week’s winner. Royal Armour, should also be hard
to beat in spite of his handicap of 12 yards, while it will not surprise if Logan Count, Morven Lad and Direct Globe are prominent. The Hillmorton Handicap, the second leg of the oncourse concession double, has drawn one of the most open and interesting fields on the
Selwyn Hanover and Seafield Countess, which finished just behind Wipe Out in last week’s Louisson Handicap, will be two of the better prospects. Selwyn Hanover was badly hampered in the run home of last week’s race and there was much merit in his placing. Like Seafield Countess, he has drawp badly, but that should not stop him winning. Seafieid Countess lost a big stretch of ground at the start of the Louisson Handicap and did exceptionally well to finish so close. She is in fine form and looks capable of a bold showing. The two fine four-year-olds, Leroy and Waitaki Hanover, will be solidly supported, and they should be two of the better chances. Golden Fleece and Newport Maid are others capable of taking a prominent part in the finish. Showers are forecast, but unless there is rain on the morning of the meeting the track should be in splendid order.
