PLANS UNCERTAIN FOR CHAMPION
Flans for last season’s champion two-year-old pacer, Sam Tryax, are still undecided, according to his part-owner and trainer, R. C. Whitford. But for the fact that he missed strong work while Whitford was ill recently Sam Tryax would probably have contested the Farewell Handicap, a sprint race at Addington Raceway tomorrow. In the meantime Sam Tryax will start at trials to be run on Tuesday at Metaven. It is possible his first race start will be the Sea-
view Handicap, a sprint race at the New Brighton meeting on September 20. “I’ve really no definite plana but I want to give him a few races before he tackles the New Zealand Derby Stakes,” Mr Whitford said yesterday. Consideration had been given to starting Sam Tryax in the North Island, but the poor stakes attached to the races for which he was eligible, plus the heavy expenses Involved In travelling and staying away from home, had decided him against such a trip, he said.
