Attempt On Flight Record

Miss Sheila Scott, the British woman pilot and one of the top international aviators, will attempt on September 4 to establish another record solo flight for light, single-engined aircraft.

Miss Scott already holder of 77 records, will try to fly to Nairobi (Kenya) from London in 48 hours. There has been no flight over this route by a record-attempting light aircraft for many years. Miss Scott’s route will

be London-Benghasi-Khar-toum-Nairobi, She can expect to meet “tiger storms”—violent weather peculiar to the upper rir of the African continent—®s well as dust storms over the desert areas. With her aircraft carrying nearly three times the normal amount of fuel she will not be able to climb over these hazards. Three months ago Miss Scott broke her own North Atlantic cast-west record and won the woman’s prize in the “Drily Mail” transatlantic air race. She started her aviation

career only 10 years ago. Since then she has qualified for all forms of’ flight, including commercial helicopters, seaplanes, gliders and balloons, in both Britain and the United States. She has collected more than 50 trophies and awards from British and foreign organisations, as well as her world records.

Her first record-breaking flights were in 1965 when, in two days, she took 15 intercapital records. The next year she became the first British pilot to fly solo round the world, taking the record at the same time.
