CHANGE NOT WANTED
Riding Rates System An effort by the finance committee chairman (Cr W. T. Rice) to get a uniform county rate substituted for the differing rates in each of the county’s nine ridings was unsuccessful at committee level, the Waimairi County Council was told last evening. After receiving reports on the proposal to abolish riding accounts, the council asked the finance committee to consider the possibility of county road maintenance being done on a county basis, or of all reading work being paid for on a county basis.
Cr Rice pointed out that the riding rates varied between $3.87 and $5.20 a $lOOO, and, other things equal, a single county rate would have been $4,21. He argued that finance would be stronger on a county basis, and that this would be to the advantage of the ratepayers.
