Appeal On Cut In Grant
A request from the Combined Appeal for Church Halls of Residence for reconsideration by the council of the cut it made in its annual grant was referred by the Waimairi County Council last evening to its grants subcommittee.
The appeal committee said that the council’s decision increased financial problems when the bodies concerned were having considerable difficulty in getting money for the undertakings. | A reduction by the council from $2006 in two years to 3100 meant, with subsidy, that $19,000 had to be found from other sources, the committee said.
Language Dropped.—Auckland University has dropped its regulation requiring arts students to take a language, other than English, for a bachelor’s degree.—(P.A.).
