City Council Reports

Sir, —I wish to assure those businessmen and shopkeepers in the Ferry Road-High Street

area who made representations to me that I spoke on their behalf at last Monday’s City Council meeting. 1 seconded Councillor Pickering’s amendment and was one of the four councillors who voted for it. To readers of "The Press” who have spoken to me and asked why I have not spoken on what they consider to be important matters at past council meetings, 1 wish to advise them I have taken part in many discussions but have never been reported in your paper.—Yours, etc., R. M. MACFARLANE.

August 20, 1969. [The case for the High Street-Ferry Road businessmen was put by Cr N. G. Pickering and reported almost in full. Virtually all that Cr Macfarlane said was repetition in support of Cr Pickering. Cr Macfarlane is wrong in saying that he has “never” been reported by “The Press” in council discussions. He has been reported whenever he has said anything worth reporting.—Ed., “The Press.”]
