Discussions On Fire Hazard
(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, July 28. The potentially disastrous fire hazard on high country pastoral land in the South Island would be discussed at a two-day open forum at Lincoln College on August 18 and 19, the Minister of Lands (Mr Maclntyre) said today. The Department of Lands and Survey, which was sponsoring the conference, had invited the Departments of Agriculture and Scientific and Industrial Research, the Forest Service, the Soil Conservation Council, the Catchment Authorities’ Association, the Counties’ Association, the local Civil Defence organisation, the Tussock Grasslands Institute, the high country committee of Federated Farmers and other bodies to take part The conference would precede the course on watershed management, which would begin at Lincoln College on August 20.
