Nutrition Course In Timaru
(From Cur Own Reporter) TIMARU, July 28. A course on food and nutrition, arranged by the South Canterbury Council for Adult Education, will be held in Timaru next month. The lecturer will be Miss A. F. Borrie, of the department of extension studies, University of Canterbury.
The course is aimed at helping persons responsible for meals in residential homes. Aspects discussed will include nutritional losses in cooking; the nutritive value of some commonly-used foods: food faddism; nutritional requirements in cases of injury, fevers and other illnesses; menu planning; stores control; standardised recipes and quantities as a means of portion control: new developments in food technology and the effects on food as used in institutions; food hygiene and handling; the Food and Drug Act and eating-house regulations as they affect institutional food service. The first part of the course will deal with nutritional requirements and variations necessary for special age groups. The second part will discuss quality food service.
