The market was firmer although rises outnumbered (aKs in the mining sector only where there was a remarkable reversal of Monday's widespread falls. C.R.A. led the way with a 40 rise to 1720 followed by many other leading miners including Great Boulder, up 30 to 800 and Mount Isa up 10 to 896. The oils were weak. Associated Australian Oilfields, which as one of the Associated Oil Group, announced a gas flow from its Mooga No. 1 well on Monday, fell 1 to 83. B.H.P performed well and rose 40 to 1440. The industrial sector as a whole, however, was weak, with Bank of New South Wales falling another 4 to 726 and 1.C.1. dropping 2 to 218. At the close of trading the market was unsettled.

C.R.A. rose 20c to 1710 c, and Western Mining and Metals Exploration firmed. Scamander rose 8c to 56c. Queensland Mines rose 40c to 940 c, and V.A.M. rose 14c to 710 c. Hamersley, Peko, Consolidated Goldfield and Loloma eased. Colonial Sugar recovered slightly after Monday’s setback. Dunlop put on 8c to 190 c. E.Z. Industries and Herald and Weekly Times weakened.
