LAUNCHING AT TIMARU
New Trawler For Chathams
The first trawler of its design to work at the Chatham Islands will be launched at the Port of Timarii tomorrow. She is the Christina, a hard-chine all-steel 33ft vessel designed by Mr J. Bakker, a naval architect, of Dunedin, for Messrs A. M. Rask and B. Ennor.
One of the four fast steel boats under construction by Parr and Company, Ltd, the Christina has a 120 horsepower engine, and has a design speed of 113 knots.
She has a beam of 10ft, and a draught of 3ft 4in. The vessel will sail to the Port of Lyttelton on Sunday, and will be shipped to the Chathams on the Holmdale next week.
The Christina, which is built to Marine Department specifications, has been under construction since April. The boat has a large amount of deck space for her size, and can be worked by one man if necessary. There is accommodation for two, and the vessel is fitted with echo-sounder and radio telephone. Her moorings will consist of a 2-ton concrete block on the end of a bottom chain—4cwt of heavy ships’ cable The Christina will replace the Jillian R.
