Education In Arts
Sir, —The object of the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council, to raise the standard of both the practice and the appreciation of the arts in New Zealand, is most desirable. One complements the otjier, yet so few people seem to realise that their appreciaton .is vital to the practi-
tioners; from the formers’ enjoyment comes the latter’s encouragement Lack of education in the arts is a failing in New Zealand and my experience in a local amateur musical production which failed from lack of an appreciative audience, convinces me of this. May I suggest that, as well as the institution for advanced training, more attention be paid to education in the arts in all schools? This is where young minds are developed, but their broadening is up to us.—Yours, etc., PIP. July 26, 1969.
