Sato’s View Of Okinawa Issue

The Japanese Prime Minister (Mr Eisaku Sato) said yesterday that he was convinced an amicable solution of the Okinawa issue between the United States and Japan would infuse fresh air into international politics. Mr Sato told 15,000 members of Lions Clubs from 107 countries assembled in Tokyo for the fifty-second Lions International convention. that a solution Would further cement the existing friendly relation between the two countries.

The Reversion of the strategic island in Uie Pacific, which Japan lost to the United States in World War 11, is a leading political issue in Japan.

The United States has already agreed to return the island to Japan, but when it will be returned and what will be the fate of the American military bases .on the island are now being negotiated by the two countries.
