Strong off to America

J?. M. STRONG, the only ■“ player to represent New Zealand at Rugby league and softball, will spend two years with the United States softball club, Marfin Madsen’, beginning this month. During the New Zealand softball team’s tour of the United States last year in preparation for the world series at Oklahoma City, Strong met Miss Jeanne Wagner, a member of the family that sponsors the Martin Madsen team in California.

Strong and Miss Wagner were married in Wellington last month. He will play for Martin Madsen for two years but will return to New Zealand permanently in 1971 to attempt to retain his outfield posjiion in the national team for the world series that year. As a centre, Strong toured

Great Britain and France with the 1965 Kiwi team but his appearances overseas and since the tour were restricted by a back- injury and he has more recently placed most of his sporting concentration on softball. Another New Zealand softball representative, J.

Lowes (Wellington), plans to go to the United States next year to improve his first base play. The stronghitting Lowes also hopes to play for Martin Madsen.
