Stephanair, which has not run a bad race since he left hack class, might make the grade in open company in the Oamaru Winter Cup, first leg of the Oamaru Jockey Club’s T.A.B. double today. At the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting last week Stephanair did well to finish second to Waterfront after being without a trial almost throughout the Donald Grant Memorial. Lady Glory is the problem horse in the field. She was the beaten favourite at Washdyke last week. Beforehand she had compiled a consistent string of open-class platings. If that was only a temporary lapse Lady Glory will be hard to beat, but like a number of other runners on the North Otago-South Canterbury circuit she might be feeling the unusually hard ground. Harold Bank, on the strength of his good effort for third last week, will have a following. But a. better prospect of those at the tail of the handicap might be My Era. a recent graduate from hack company. He impressed by his fourth placing at Ashburton at his Met start and his good track work on Tuesday.
