Duties include responsibility for all negotiations with artists, arrangements for over 100 concerts a year, a national school music contest, and other varied and growing activties. Applicants should be well-educated, have a sound organisational ability, ability with figures, interest in musical development in New Zealand, and a pleasant personality. They must be capable of making decisions and in due course of accepting a large measure of responsiblity for all Federation activities. This is a position for an energetic and mature person, probably in the early thirties or forties. Salary will be subject to negotiations, but for someone with the right experience and ability will be a minimum of $4500. A higher salary is later envisaged, and a superannuation scheme is available. Minimum age for commencing training is 17} years, with a maximum age of 35 years and a good standard of education, preferably with School Certificate, is required. Commencing salary is $1416 per annum ($27.16 per week) and for a 21-year-old $1856 per annum ($35.60 per week). Normal Public Service conditions of employment apply. In addition to this penal rates are paid for work on week-ends and public holidays, and some overtime is worked. Annual leave entitlement is four weeks per year. Uniforms, etc., are provided free and accommodation is available in the male staff quarters and the nurses’ home at a reasonable charge. Porirua Hospital is 12 miles from Wellington and only 10 minutes’ walk from the Railway Station. Train services are good. The Porirua City shopping centre is only 15 minutes walk from the hospital. Recreational facilities are available to staff at the hospital.
