DUTIES: Responsible for mechanical design and maintenance of equipment associated with tunnelling by mechanical moles, and mechanized spoil removal in Silurian Rock and Compressed Air tunnels. EXPERIENCE: Substantial experience as a Professional Engineer in design, supervision and maintenance of mechanical equipment in tunnelling or mining projects. The appointee will be of excellent health, so enabling him to qualify for the Board’s medical examination for admission to compressed air atmospheres. SUPERVISING ENGINEER (Water Supply Design Branch) —Position No. 2048. This Branch is responsible for the investigation and design of all major works required for the water supply system including storage and service reservoirs, tanks, pumping stations, transfer and distribution mains, and the like necessary for the supply of water to an area of some 500 square miles containing a population of over 2 million persons. Augmentation of supply to this area will necessitate the design of major storage reservoirs and major tunnel conduits together with the associated steel pipelines, conduits, inlet and outlet works and control installations. Some of the duties of the appointees will be to supervise the design of aspects of these augmentation works. SALARY: 5A6925—5A7134 per annum. DUTIES: Detailed design and preparation of estimates and tender documents for civil engineering components of water supply works of a special nature. EXPERIENCE: Experience in the design of water supply works and of major earth, rock and/or concrete dams and/or major tunnels in rock will be of particular value.
