‘SOLDIERS STRAFED’

El Salvador Allegation (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) SAN SALVADOR, July 4. El Salvador claimed yesterday that a Honduran C 47 plane had strafed El Salvador troops stationed on the frontier between the two Central American Republics.

The Government announcement said that anti-aircraft batteries forced the plane back into Honduran territory. No casualties were reported. El Salvador and Honduras recently severed diplomatic relations, after riots over a series of elimination soccer games between the two countries for next year's World Cup. The rift caused a mass exodus of thousands of El Salvador citizens from Honduras. El Salvador has declared a State of Emergency and has called up reservists. The Government has also charged Honduras with genocide, and has demanded an investigation by the Organisation of American States’ Human Rights Commission.
