DEATH IN ACCIDENT

Four Others Injured

One man was killed and four others were injured in a collision between a car and a van in Riccarton Avenue about 200 yards from the Deans Avenue roundabout about 10.30 p.m. yesterday. The name of the man killed was not released, as next-of-kin had not been notified.

The injured, all of whom were admitted to hospital, are Fraser Richard Sedon. of 503 Hereford Street, who suffered facial injuries; Donald Thom, care of 38 Lichfield Street, who suffered similar injuries; Christopher Michael Brown, of 11 Dilworth Street, who suffered head and facial injuries; and Wayne White, of 29 Tensing Place, who suffered neck injuries.

Mr Brown, Mr White, and the man killed, were in the car and Mr Sedon and Mr Thom in the van.

The car mounted the gutter on the south side of the road, narrowly missing a lamp-post and a tree, and stopped against another tree. Both vehicles were extensively damaged.

It is believed that the man killed was thrown from the car soon after the collision. As the car crossed the road after the collision it narrowly missed two boys cycling along the avenue.
