Take advantage of gaps in hedges, walls and hoardings to get an early view of what lies ahead. When you are approaching traffic lights which are justs, turning green (in your favour) change into a lower gear and progressively reduce speed until you are sure noone is going to ignore the red from the right or left, then accelerate briskly out of the hazard. If you follow this system you will avoid the possibility of a collision through someone else’s carelessness or lack of observation. Remember that you also may be held to have committed an offence should you not have exercised reasonable care, which means paying regard to all hazards and not taking it for granted that you are in the clear. By driving in this way you well reduce risks to an absolute minimum and avoid “near misses” which raise blood pressure and unsettle you.
