Herb Society Recipes

A recipe book of dishes used at the Canterbury Herb Society’s meeting was being compiled, the president (Mrs Gillian Polson) said in the society's annual report. Membership was 140, including people in Britain. Auckland, and Dunedin who received the newsletter. The society was now affiliated to the Horticultural Society. Thyme, lemon balm, French sorrel, and marjoram were discussed at bi-monthly meetings and recipes using the various herbs were tasted. Members visited Mrs Avis Hill’s extensive lavender garden and watched a demonstration of herb drying. Basil —tasted in a variety of sandwiches—was the theme for the day on a visit to Potters Farm. Mr L. Langley served a luncheon of “herbs galore” for 60 members. Since the society’s inauguration a year ago herbs were being brought.to the public’s notice more often and there was a desire for information and knowledge. Officers elected: President, Mrs P. F. Polson; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames A. Hill, E Sykes; secretary, Mrs M. Fitts; treasurer, Mrs P. McClelland; committee, Mesdames N. Brownlie, P. Philips, T. Clelland, M. Morris, H. McNaughton, Mr L. Langley.
