Projects By Jaycees
The fourth conference of the North Canterbury-West Coast region of New Zealand Jaycees held at the Hermitage recently, agreed in principle to assisting the National Heart Foundation and to promote publicity on the harmful effects of drug addiction. A remit supporting the admission of women into the society was defeated. The final of the regional debating contest was won by the Papanui-Belfast Jaycees from the recently formed Malvern Jaycees. Mr T. Dunee (New Brighton) won the regional public speaking final. His subject was the relations between Maori and pakeha. Officers elected were: Regional governor, Mr R. Stothers (Rangiora); deputy regional governors, Messrs R. Parry (South Christchurch) and T. Inch (Rangiora). The 1970 conference will be held in Timaru.
