Policemen Receive Awards

Three policemen were presented with awards marking 28 years service at a parade at the Central Station yesterday morning. Three others received awards for 21 years service and eight for 14 years service. Chief Superintendent G. S. Austing is shown congratulating Constable G. A. Lithgow, officer in charge of inquests. Second from the left is Sergeant L. M. Bailey, officer in charge of the cycle office, and on the right is Constable T. W. Illes, of the C. 1.8. inquiry office. All have served for more than 28 years. Constable Boyle is a daughter of the late Constable W. S. Boyle, who was well known in Balclutha and Akaroa. Her sister, Miss N. Boyle, is matron at the Central station. Constable Boyle is the first woman to receive a 14 years service award at Christchurch for a number of years. She works in the youth-aid section. Chief Superintendent Austing also presented certificates of proficiency to six members of the dog section who gained them at trials last November. They included one to Constable P. Rosewame, whose dog, Anka, was top dog at the trials.
