French Bank Rate Up
(N.Z.P A.-Reuter—Copyright) PARIS.’June 15. France's Bank Rate was raised from 6 per cent to 7 per cent on Friday in a move which had been widely expected but surprised bankers by its timing. The rise, effective immediately, meant that the French Bank Rate has doubled in the last 11 months. The Bank of France, which decided on the increase at a meeting of its governors on Friday afternoon, said the rise was because of internat’nn.j developments. While bankers said they had been expecting a Bank Rate rise in the near future, it bad not been thought likely then—two days before the decisive second round of the French presidential election.
