Increase Examples
Cr H. P. Smith, chairman of the City Council finance committee, gave examples last evening from which ratepayers can calculate their own demands under the new rates.
The examples given by Cr Smith showed that in each
case the council’s general amalgamated rates will increase by 10.13 per cent and the water rate by 10 per cent. The rates levied by other local bodies account for varying percentage increases in the over-all rating demand. Examples are: Departmental store with high capital but high unimproved values: $8201.56, compared with $7361.78, an increase of 11.41 per cent. Departmental store with high capital but low unimproved value: $17,888.26 ($16,164.23), 10.67 per cent.
Old house in central area: $82.17 ($74.34), 10.53 per cent. Linwood residence: $79.11 ($71.18), 11.17 per cent. Spreydon home: $74.44 ($67.08), 10.97 per cent. Papanui home: $98.91 ($89.18), 10.91 per cent. Wainoni Road house: $84.07 ($75.57), 11.25 per cent. Sandown Crescent house: $77.53 ($69.68), 11.26 per cent. Waipara Street, Hoon Hay, house: $82.12 ($73.89), 11.14 per cent. Halswell Road, Hoon Hay, house: $83.43 ($75.02), 11.21 per cent. Sumner house: $67.72 ($60.97), 11.07 per cent.
