Rahu Post Office
Sir, —I was interested in Mr Collins’s reply to “SA.C.” on the closing of the post office at Rahu. At Easter time a friend of mine, a member of the travelling public, wished to make a local telephone call there but was told by the person in charge of the “Mountain View” complex that this was not possible as there was only a private telephone. As Mr Collins says, many residents have their telephones, but these are not often a satisfactory alternative to the letter. Imagine trying to describe a wedding or a football match by toll call! Business letters, too, are necessary to farmers and often need prompt attention. If residents not on the bus route accept the private bag service, do they not have to travel to a post office to collect them?—Yours, etc., D. MR. June 3, 1969.
