On the fringe
New Zealand’s most out* standingly versatile woman athlete, Miss B. Poulsen, of Christchurch, is busy preparing for the Pacific Conference Games in Tokyo next September under the guidance of her coach, Mr V. Breidis. Miss Poulsen is among the country’s best long jumpers—she holds the Canterbury title—but it is the shot and 100 metres hurdles she will compete in for New Zealand at Tokyo. She currently holds the national shot and pentathlon titles. However, the strength required by these two events have not affected her speed. Her second placing in the New Zealand 100 metres hurdles championship and third placing in the 100 yards final is convincing proof of this. She is clearly on the fringe of an exciting international career in athletics.
