Istan Light May Race At Trentham

Istan Light dashed over half a mile in the style of a good sprinter in training at Riccarton yesterday. His pleasing progress since his wins as a hurdler at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s and Amberley meetings last month have heightened interest in his coming switch to steeplechasing.

Nursie has shown marked galloping ability in training, but she has not raced generously in big fields, A feature of the training was Running Waters’s halfmile under a good weight Ridden by L. Swete, this four-year-old did well to record 48 3-ssec. He may make a fresh start at the Ashburton meeting next week. Count Como (R. McCann) led Offender (Mein) by two lengths after running half a mile in 31 3-ssec. Fathom Five (Reuben) went about her work keenly to record 50 3-ssec for half a mile. Mr Rhee (Mein) beat Silver Charm (M. Skelton) by half a length and Game Flight (Lewin) by more than three lengths over half a mile in 50 l-ssec.
