Truck Driver Killed
(N.Z. Press Association) NELSON June 3. A truck driver was killed and another was seriously injured when two Waimea County Council trucks collided on the main highway near Spring Grove about 10.45 a.m. today. The dead man was Sydney Ernest Robinson, aged about 53, married, with six children, of River Terrace, Brightwater.
The other driver was admitted to the Nelson Public Hospital with head and chest injuries. He is Maurice Inwood, aged 45, of Brightwater. The police said that Mr Robinson had been driving an empty articulated truck. The trailer apparently jack-knifed in front of an oncoming laden metal truck, driven by Mr Inwood.
“The articulated trailer appears to have struck a bump on the side of the road, which may have been the reason for it being thrown across the road,” said the police spokesman. Both trucks were badly damaged.
