Out Of Steam
The special old-time steam locomotive which was to make a farewell trip from Wellington to Auckland on Monday finished the journey ignominiously. After being seen off by about 300 people as it pulled out of the Taumaranui Station with a load of railway enthusiasts, and giving a jaunty toot on its whistle, the train was able to reach only Ongarue, 15 miles north, under its own steam. A breakdown there made it necessary for a diesel to be dispatched to haul the steam locomotive and its train to Frankton.
