No Bid For N.I. Event
(N.Z. Preu Annotation) WELLINGTON. The New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association has not yet received applications from provincial contras to hold thia year’s North Island championships. Members ot the management committee thought that Hutt Valley would be the venue for the championships until they were told at last night's meeting that no application had been submitted. It was hoped that this year the national circuit would include the North Island championships. the South Island championships at Nelson and the New Zealand championships tn Wellington. These would be preceded by the Wellington championships. No confirmed dates have been made, and there is little likehood of them being settled until a definite offer is received for the North Island championships. Canterbury has applied for the national age group championships which will be held In January. A member of the committee, Mr J. Gunn, suggested that the non-playing captain of this year's Davis Cup side refund some of the round-the-world air expenses he received from the national association The chairman of the management committee, Mr S. Painter, of Wellington, managed the Davia Cup team. “I am only putting this forward.” said Mr Gunn, “because our funds will be so low after this year's Davis Cup.” The suggestion, however, was strongly contested by other members of the committee. Mr M. Healey said it was "most improper to send someone overseas and then ask for a refund ot some ot the fare. “It would be an embarrasment to us all,” he added.
